Invincible VS Studio Quarter Up Faces Layoffs and Leaves Skeleton Crew for DLC
Following the launch of Invincible VS, developer Quarter Up has reportedly experienced significant layoffs, leaving a skeleton crew to work on upcoming DLC.
Developer Quarter Up, an internal studio of Skybound Games, has reportedly been hit by substantial layoffs following the debut release of Invincible VS. Former senior gameplay engineer Daniel Hogberg shared on LinkedIn that he was laid off alongside most of his team, while former gameplay engineer Daniel Schlesinger also reported being let down from Skybound Entertainment and the Quarter Up team.
Reports regarding the exact scale of the cuts vary. An anonymous employee speaking to This Week in Videogames alleged that roughly 75% of Quarter Up was laid off, reducing a 50-member team down by about 35 employees. Another source indicated that layoffs began incrementally in June and July. According to reports, only a skeleton crew remains to provide support through the first wave of downloadable content, which features the Immortal and Universa as new characters. Future plans for a second wave remain unmentioned, raising the possibility of further reductions as operations wind down.
Former employees have assumed that the redundancies stem from Invincible VS underperforming relative to expectations, leaving the studio without the necessary budget to maintain full staff numbers. Skybound Games has not issued an official comment regarding the layoffs or the future trajectory of the studio, leaving long-term support for the game uncertain.
